Consultation calls are booked for 10-15 minutes and are free-of-charge. They are meant to ensure I am qualified and experienced in the concerns being presented, answer any questions, and see if we might be a good "fit" moving forward.
If you decide to book a session, consultation calls also allow me to gather some basic information and answer any questions you might have about the process.
A lot of people feel nervous to book a first session, especially if they've never engaged in therapy before. First sessions are usually pretty relaxed and are meant to get-to-know one another. Although they look different for everyone, some topics typically covered in the first session include:
- discussing hopes for therapy involvement
- reviewing intake forms and answering questions
- starting to develop a plan moving forward
- reviewing strengths and interests
It's important to know I don't force anyone to talk about anything they don't want to. If you're not comfortable with a topic or question in any session (especially the first) just let me know!
Individual sessions are booked for 50-60 minutes.
The total length of therapy / number of sessions varies widely and depends on multiple factors including:
- goals and hopes for therapy
- type of therapy
- mental health concern(s) / stressors
- financial / benefits limitations
- personal preferences
Some people choose to come for a shorter time to work through specific concerns, while others choose to engage for longer periods of time to process multiple (sometimes ongoing) life events. There are no minimum or upper limits for number of sessions.
Frequency of sessions is flexible and depends on multiple factors including:
- personal preference
- goals / hopes for therapy
- mental health concerns
- type of therapy (EMDR and ERP recommend shorter intervals between sessions)
- benefit / financial situation
- scheduling and availability
Some people choose to come more frequently at the beginning of therapy with longer intervals between sessions as time goes on. There is no one-size-fits-all rule for frequency of sessions.
I have flexible hours (daytime, evening, and weekend) to try and accommodate different schedules. I also offer both in-person and online services.
My office is baby-friendly and you're always welcome to have your baby in an online session as well. Many new parents also attempt to schedule online sessions during naptimes.
